If you are on a Direct Engagement agreement, please see our article How do I claim Sick Pay if I am working on a Direct Engagement agreement?
If you cancelled your shift due to illness you may be able to claim sick pay.
From day 1 of your illness, you can claim sick pay if you qualify. You need to complete an Employee's Statement of Sickness form – you can find the form on the gov.uk website – and email it to payandreward@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk. In your email you will need to include your name, date of birth, and a brief description of your illness.
If you are off sick for more than 7 days, we’ll need a fit note from your GP. You will need to send that fit note to payandreward@nhsprofessionals.nhs.uk
You must inform us of your sickness as soon as reasonably possible.
To qualify for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP):
- You have cancelled a confirmed shift booked due to sickness.
- You will receive payment within one to two weeks due to processing times.
- Please refer to the gov.uk website for details regarding Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rates.
If you do not qualify for SSP
- We will send out an SSP1 form and letter to you via secure e-mail. You can use this to claim benefits from your local benefits office, such as universal credit or employment and support allowance.
Please note: if you are returning to work from sickness earlier than the date you have been signed off, you will need to make us aware of this in writing (to the above e-mail address). If you don’t do this, it may lead to deductions or recovery of sickness absence payments made to you.
