The NHSP StatMand Patient Moving and Handling classroom training is designed to ensure our Bank Members are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills to move and handle patients safely, while maintaining patient dignity. The learning outcome of this course align with those required by the Core Skills Training Frameworks.
The practical use of the hoist has now been removed from the session. This element accounted a very small percentage of our half-day course. In its place, the training now offers an enhanced learner experience, providing more time for participants to be hands-on with slings and clips. These are central to safe patient moving and handling practice and are therefore a more valuable focus for developing competence. Using classroom hoists risked creating false competence, as hoists vary across our Partner Trusts and Clients.
- The training remains fully compliant with the Core Skills Training Framework, and all learning outcomes continue to be met.
- Bank Members are reminded that a variety of hoists are used across our different Partner Trusts and Clients. You must familiarise yourself with local equipment and guidance before use.
- By concentrating on slings and clips, we ensure the training continues to prioritise both patient safety and dignity.
This adjustment not only streamlines delivery but also strengthens the quality of the learning experience. Bank members remain fully prepared to adapt to the specific requirements of our Partner Trusts and Clients; supported by the foundation of robust, standardised training. Bank Members also have a greater opportunity for hands on practical training due to having more access to training equipment (slings) than the previous training with a single hoist.
