What do I need to bring to a shift?

For every shift you work with us, you will need to have:

  • ID & ID Badge
  • Uniform or clothing in-line with the local dress code (if applicable)
  • Ward Orientation Checklist (if it is your first shift in that location)

For more information, please see the relevant heading below.

ID & ID Badge

To ensure the safety of staff and patients within NHS Trusts, regular ID checks are conducted for all staff.

Please ensure that you bring an acceptable form of personal photo identification (see list below of acceptable ID) and your NHS Professionals ID badge which you will be asked to present at the start of every shift.  If you are unable to present acceptable photo ID and your NHS Professionals ID badge, you may be turned away from the shift. If this occurs, you will not be paid for the shift.

Acceptable photo identification:

  • Full, signed UK (Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Irish) passport or other nationalities passport
  • UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card
  • UK full or provisional photocard driving licence
  • Other nationalities photocard driving licence. (Valid up to 12 months from the date when the individual entered the UK)
  • HM Armed Forces Identity card (UK)
  • Identity cards carrying the PASS (Proof of Age Standards Scheme) accreditation logo (issued in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only)
  • EEA government issued identity cards that comply with Council Regulation (EC) No 2252/2004, containing a biometric

You must wear your ID card at all times whilst on site.

Uniform or clothing in line with the local dress code

Not all bank workers will require a uniform. If you're eligible for a uniform, you'll be provided with two NHS Professionals uniforms. These uniforms will be suitable for you to carry out your role and is inline with the NHS standard regarding infection control policies. We ask that you make sure these are:

  • Regularly washed,
  • Regularly cleaned, and
  • Well maintained.

Your shoes must also be black, non-slip, and closed-toe.

For more information, please see our article How do I get my NHS Professionals uniform? and our Uniform Policy.

If you are not eligible for a uniform, you can find details of your Partner Trust or Client's dress code on their intranet. We also have some details of local dress codes here.

Ward Orientation Checklist

It's essential you are given a brief orientation each time you work in a new area. This is to ensure staff and patient Health and Safety. Our Partner Trusts and Clients are responsible for ensuring all Bank Members know everything they need to perform their duties. To see what a Ward Orientation should cover, download our Ward Orientation Checklist. Please note: this list is not exhaustive.
