What happens if I get a Did Not Attend or Short Notice Cancellation?

Once you have received a warning, you’ll enter our DNA and/or SNC process.

  • If you don’t attend a shift without informing us or the ward, you’ll get a ‘Did Not Attend’ warning.
  • If you cancel your shift less than 12 hours before it starts, you will get a ‘Short Notice Cancellation’ warning.

The DNA and SNC processes both contain 4 stages. We use them to manage attendance and support our Trusts to maintain safe staffing levels.

Not Applicable

You’re removed from working with NHS Professionals with the right to appeal.

The DNA and SNC processes run separately, and you can be on different stages of both processes at any time. For example, you can be on a Stage 1 of the DNA process and Stage 3 of the SNC process at the same time.

Stage 4 of either process can lead to you no longer being able to work for NHS Professionals. For more information on this, please see our article I received a Stage 4 SNC/DNA warning. What do I do now?

If you have received a DNA or SNC warning and you believe you shouldn't have – for instance, if you were asked to move wards or gave the ward over 12 hours of notice – let us know by using the 'Need More Help?' Contact form below with the categories 'My Membership', 'Absence' and 'Appeal a Warning'.
