What's the HCSWD Programme?

At NHSP we are giving people an opportunity to start their career in the healthcare sector. The Healthcare Care Support Worker Development (HCSWD) Programme lets you work while completing your Care Certificate. You will need to be able to work flexibly at least 30 hours a week over seven days, which will include days, nights and weekends.

We have two programmes depending on the Partner Trust or Client and the Location:

  • Our 3-month ‘Experience Based’ placement programme. This requires 3 months of paid care home or community care experience within the last 2 years
  • Our 6 month ‘Values Based’ placement programme needs no previous experience or qualifications. We only need to see your passion for and interest in the care sector.

Before you can start your placement, you will need to:

  • Complete an application providing references.
  • Complete your online DBS and Occupational Health assessment forms. You will receive these by email if your application is successful.
  • Complete a 3-4 day classroom training session.
  • Covid risk assessment

Until you complete these, any offer to join the programme is conditional.

You will work within the Partner Trust or Client on placement and when you work will be decided by the needs of the Trust. You will need to complete your Healthcare Certificate Workbook and Conflict Management Training while on placement. A member of our local Trust Services team will organise this for you.

All Trainee Healthcare Support Worker opportunities are currently advertised on the NHS Jobs and Indeed websites. For further information please visit the NHS Jobs website and search for ‘Trainee Healthcare Support Worker’.
