I'm an applicant and I have an interview with you. Do you have any advice?

A Clinical Interview usually takes 45 minutes to an 1 hour. The interview aims to find out your suitability for the role you are applying for using the following criteria:

  • Skills and experience
  • Understanding of the role you are applying for
  • Communication skills
  • Situational questioning
  • NHS Values


Before the Interview

  • Make sure you have uploaded your identity documents through Trust ID. For more information on how to do this, see our article How do I upload documents to Trust ID?
  • Prepare some examples of scenarios and your experience to help with discussions
  • Ensure you fully understand the role you are applying for
  • Ensure you are familiar with the NHS Values


On the day

  • If your interview is virtual, find a quiet room without distractions and prepare ahead of the start time to make sure your technology is working
  • If your interview is face-to-face, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the interview
  • Dress appropriately
  • Have your ID ready for your ID check


During the Interview

  • Try to relax
  • Be honest with your interviewer
  • Take your time when answering questions 
  • Ask the interviewer to re-phrase the question if you are unsure what they have asked
  • Ask any questions you have
