What is the process for retiring and returning to NHSP? I am a Substantive applicant returning to work with your Partner Trust or Client

You won’t need to reapply when you return, however, you need to inform us about your retirement. Our payroll team will then generate a new Electronic Staff Record (ESR) number to ensure accurate tax payments, to protect your pension from any negative effects.

Please complete the 'Need More Help?' Contact Form below this and every article at least 4 weeks before you retire. Please use the categories 'Pay, Benefits & Leave' and 'Pension' and include all of the below information:

  • Your retirement date
  • The date you intend to return to work after retiring
  • Your National Insurance number
  • Your current address

Once you have emailed the above information, you need to allow at least 24 hours before returning, in order for payroll to activate your new ESR number. Unfortunately, we can't backdate your retirement date.

When contacting us we recommend logging in to see all available options on our Contact Form. Choosing the most appropriate options for you will ensure your query always goes through the the correct team. For more information, see our article How do I login to my NHSP:Online account?
