Please Note: We can't accept more than 1 document from the same institution. For instance, we can accept a Driving Licence issued by the DVLA and a letter from HMRC, but we can't accept a bank statement and mortgage letter from the same bank
Group 2b documents for the purposes of a DBS check have specific rules around what documents can or can't be taken. Rules around what documents we can accept are set out by the Disclosure and Barring Service and NHS Employers.
The documents we can accept as a Group 2b document are:
Driving Licence
- We can only accept a valid Driving Licence (i.e. still in date)
- Your Driving Licence must be in your current address.
- If your Driving Licence is not in your current name, please provide a Marriage Certificate or Deed Poll showing your name change
Financial Documents

Utility Documents
- We can accept posted Utility Bills dated in the last 3 months
- We cannot accept Online Utility Bills, Utility Reminder Letters or other letters from your Utility Company
- We can accept summaries of the previous year's Gas, Electric or Water accounts dated in the last 3 months
- We cannot accept estimates or future estimates of your Gas, Electric and Water accounts
- We can accept a Broadband or Landline bill dated in the last 3 months
- We cannot accept a Mobile Phone bill, TV licence or payment plans
HMRC Documents
- We can accept paper and electronic P45s and P60s issued within the last 12 months as long as they have your current home address on them
- We can accept a Tax Code Letter issued within the last 3 months
- We can accept letters about Tax calculations granting a rebate issued within the last 3 months
- We cannot accept 'Need to Pay More Tax' tax calculations
- We can accept a posted letter from HMRC issued within the last 3 months as long as it includes your NI number and an issue date
- We can accept a Child Tax Credit statement issued within the last 3 months
- We can accept an Employment History issued by HMRC in the last 3 months as long as it lists your previous employment
Local Authority or Government Documents
- We can accept a Council Tax Bill, Amendment or Exemption Letter or Statement issued within the last 12 months
- Your Council Tax Bill will need to have your name listed as an addressee or under 'Other Liable People'
- We cannot accept a Council Tax Arrears letter
- We can accept a Housing Benefit, Child Benefit or Jobseekers Allowance statement issued within the last 3 months
- We can accept a letter confirming you are registered to vote issued in the last 3 months
- We can accept a Voting Card from 6 weeks before the election date until 6 weeks after
- We cannot accept a letter asking you to register to vote
- We can accept a Council or Government letter granting entitlement issued within the last 3 months
- We cannot accept a Council or Government letter removing or stopping entitlement
Other Documents
We can accept:
- Student Finance Statements and Student Loan Statements issued within the last 12 months as long as they have been posted to you
- Student Loan Letter issued in the last 3 months as long as it has been posted to you
- Student Finance Loan Approval Letter issued in the last 12 months as long as it has been posted to you and includes the relevant figures
- EEA National ID Card, Irish Passport Card or cards carrying the PASS logo as long as they are valid (still in date)
- If you are aged between 16 & 19 - a Letter from your Head Teacher or Principle on headed paper only if no other documents can be provided.
