What does Practical Mandatory Training involve?

Our Practical Mandatory Training (PMT) modules align with the Skills for Health Core Skills Training Framework. Our Bank Members are required to complete these statutory and mandatory (StatMand) training modules to ensure they are up to date with current best practice and ensure patient safety.

Some Bank Members in non-clinical roles do not require practical mandatory training and are compliant after completion of their assigned online training.

However, Bank Members in clinical roles will be invited to attend some of the following modules:

  • Resuscitation classroom practical (level and audience depending on role)
  • Patient moving and handling (classroom practical)
  • Conflict resolution (classroom session)

Some Bank Members working in mental health settings will also be invited to attend:

  • Breakaway

The exact module each Bank Member is required to attend is dependent on their role and a communication from NHSP at the time training is due will be clear on exactly what module is required.

Below is a list of the practical modules NHSP provides with links to more information about each module:

We understand that attending training alongside work and personal commitments can be challenging, particularly as Bank Members are not paid for time spent training.

However, statutory and mandatory training is an essential requirement for working safely in clinical environments and is a condition of engagement with NHS Professionals.

Training compliance includes the above listed courses. Wherever possible, training is delivered online, but some practical elements must be completed face to face in line with national requirements.

To support a positive learning experience for everyone, Bank Members are expected to attend on time and engage appropriately; a 15-minute grace period applies, after which trainers may turn learners away if disruption would be caused.

Bank Members who are not compliant will be unable to book shifts.

Please remember that this training can be used towards your NMC (or equivalent) re-validation.

Reasonable Adjustments for Training – What You Need to Know

At the Academy, we are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all Bank Members. We recognise that some individuals may require reasonable adjustments to support their participation in training, whether this relates to educational, accessibility, or physical needs.

Reasonable adjustments may include (but are not limited to):

  • Additional learning support
  • Accessibility requirements (e.g. seating, space, or equipment)
  • Support for neurodiversity or specific learning needs
  • Adjustments relating to health conditions or physical limitations

To help us support you effectively, we kindly ask that you inform us of any reasonable adjustment requirements before attending your training session. This allows our team to complete the necessary risk assessment (for both classroom and online delivery) and ensure that trainers are appropriately prepared to support your learning experience.

If you require any reasonable adjustments, please contact us in advance via email at:

Classroomtraining@NHSProfessionals.nhs.uk

Early notification enables us to:

  • Plan appropriate support measures
  • Inform the trainer in advance
  • Ensure the training environment is safe, accessible, and inclusive
  • Make any necessary adaptations to delivery or equipment

We understand that there may be occasions where adjustment needs are not identified until the day of training. In most cases, our team and trainers will make a dynamic assessment on the day and take reasonable steps to support you where possible.

However, providing advance notice gives us the best opportunity to put suitable adjustments in place and ensure a positive and safe learning experience for everyone.

If you are unsure whether you require an adjustment, we encourage you to contact the team for a confidential discussion. We are here to support you and ensure that all Bank Members can engage fully with their training.
